Open Question: Which coastal towns to look into for a move?
I’m a single mom on a teacher’s salary. I lived in So Cal when I was married and loved the weather, atmosphere, and ability to drive to the beach or the mountains. My children and I enjoy snorkeling, hiking, and generally hanging out at the beach. I moved inland to get my feet back under me after I separated, and now I’m ready to get back to the coast. I’d like to find someplace similar to San Diego, but with a teacher’s salary in mind. I realize some compromises will have to be made, and no place is perfect, but I don’t even know where to begin! On my list are CA ($$), VA, NC, SC, GA, and FL. Anything further north will probably be too cold for my tastes as I really don’t like the snow all that much. I’m looking for some place with a mild year round climate, good schools for my kiddos (and for working in!), low crime, lots of outdoor activities year round, and a laid back vibe. I’m pretty liberal and I’ve found some places are more suited to that mentality than others
FYI, we just got back from a trip to the Myrtle Beach/Pawleys Island area, and while I enjoy the beaches there, I have trouble envisioning myself living year round in that environment.
